Once upon a time part 2

   While Danielle continued to talk with her hands she slowly became aware that all was not well in the land of Xanga.

  There were changes taking place, some were helpful and assisted Danielle as she spoke.  Other changes were just for the enjoyment of the other inhabitants.  Some of these changes were for the safety of the citizens of Xanga,  but within months the changes vanished and the leaders of Xanga claimed no knowledge of them.  Soon the changes no longer assisted Danielle and most of them were frustrating as they had no real importance to the community of Xanga, but were merely "fluff".

  Danielle watched as the walls of Xanga became higher and many of the gates disappeared making it extremely difficult for her friends outside of Xanga to come and talk to her.  She, her mom and sister had many meetings discussing the changes that were taking place and wondering what they could do.   As taxpayers they hoped their voices might have some weight behind them.  But alas, the non-taxpayers were more numerous and drowned out the voices of those who supported them.

  One day Danielle's sister moved to a new land, a land that their mom had found.  A land where you could speak easily and friends who were not a part of the land could still come and visit.  Danielle started to visit this new land as well and slowly found herself moving some of her belongings over with every visit.  She decided that this living in two different places was not going to work and so resolved to make her permanent home in the land of Wordpress.  You can now visit her here http://www.exgoatmilker.wordpress.com

Oh! I am sad you have moved.
It will make it harder for me to remember to visit you.

Can you please tell me exactly what has gone wrong with xanga?
I am a bit mystified?

Anyone who wants to follow any blog can do so quite simply through the many free services such as Bloglines, Yahoo reader, etc. The subscription system there is quick and easy and you are not limited to blogs from just Xanga or any other blogging service. I follow ALL of the blogs I read through Bloglines (www.bloglines.com), as well as following the day's news through a few news site subscriptions there as well. I've done it this way for years, and it saves me a lot of time.

@Rabbits_Nest -

I'm a bit sad as well, and let me tell you, it is a pain having to copy all of these posts over.

Have you heard of Bloglines? It's a free service and you can have it follow all of your blogs for you. You just have to click to one page to see who has updated and then you can follow the links they provide to the new posts, super nice! You can also read most blogs on Bloglines with no need to click over unless you wish to leave a comment.

Xanga has been changing from a blog spot to more of a network (think Myspace and Facebook). While I have nothing against networks, I love Facebook myself, I really don't want to be blogging on one. Awhile back they also introduced a new security feature where no one could leave a comment without being A) A member of Xanga or B) Providing an email address that would only be visible to the blog authors whose pages you comment on. I LOVED this feature, several months later I received a snarky comment from someone who was neither a member, nor was there an email address provided. When I contacted Xanga they replied that they had never heard of such a feature and what a great idea it was. Insert me slamming my head against the keyboard. They now have something similar but it takes twelve steps and even then comments are lost and people are aggravated.

Xanga continues to add new features while they ignore fixing the old ones. The home page is almost daily obscene and/or offensive. It's just not a place I want to be associated with anymore.

Wordpress allows me to have have a free blog that has next to no ads. Here on Xanga I pay for a blog to avoid them and still get harassed with them on my private page and little pop up windows wanting me to take surveys or add advertisements for money. No thank you!

Sorry for the book, but honestly these are just my biggest pet peeves with Xanga right now. I do hope I will still here from you!

I will continue to follow you.  I have started blogging myself at blogger.com but i copy my posts to xanga ,  I'm not sure why I continue to copy to xanga but I do.  I uses windows live writer to write my posts (this keeps a copy on my puter for me) and copying to xanga is just a matter of clicking a button and hitting publish.  I am ok with blogger but there are things I don't like also... I may check out word press.  I just don't look forward to learning new formatting etc.  Also, how are you moving all your posts?

@juejee -

Thanks, Juejee. I'm glad to know you'll still be around.

Right now I am moving all of my posts by copying them and then pasting them into new posts over on Wordpress. Unfortunately Xanga is one of the blog services Wordpress can not transfer posts from (I think Blogger is though). The problem is I lose the comments from them. Sometimes the best reading was found in the comments I'm going to run a couple Google searches before I move anymore to see if there isn't a better way to do this.

Dani, like you & your Mom, I've moved most of my blogging to Blogspot. I've been copying over on Xanga too for a few of my subscribers who won't or don't know how to use a reader (I love my Google Reader). I will not be paying for Xanga premium anymore either. Xanga has just become too complicated, with too many pages (my personal page, another page that is not mine but not the public one either) and when I add modules I never know where it's going to end up. I like the composition page for Xanga as compared to Blogspot but not the photo uploading.

Anyway, I'm glad to see you are not leaving the blogworld, just moving to make it easier for you. I've subscribed to your feed already.

You'll find me at http://prairie-quilts-and-kolaches.blogspot.com/
